In the world of marketing, there is a rule called "90-9-1" — about how 90% of users on the internet silently consume content. At most, they "like" and "hit the bell." 9% participate in discussions, simply put, they write comments under posts and videos. And only 1% create content.
In 2014, there was even a study that tested how true this rule is. Four large forums were examined, covering nearly 65 thousand users and 600 thousand posts. Everything was confirmed: 1% of users produced almost 75% of all content.
It turns out that "public opinion" on the internet is not so public after all, and the agenda is shaped by a tiny minority. Those who want to speak out the most. And not always, by the way, are these people with good intentions.
So the next time you see a post or video on the internet whose idea seems alien, strange, or outright absurd to you — don't worry. There's nothing wrong with you. And there's nothing wrong with the internet either.
And someone else's opinion on this very internet, even if it *seems* popular and widely accepted — is just the opinion of one specific person, not of all humanity.
