This is the story of the England national football team under Gareth Southgate from 2016 to 2024. Apart from the victorious 1966 World Cup, this is the most successful period for the English, the founders of this sport, by the way.
The series cleverly combines documentary footage (real match footage, the atmosphere around the team in the press, and so on) with fictional elements (all dialogues, internal scenes, and the rest are the authors' inventions).
What's surprising: even knowing everything this team went through (they never won a single trophy), you can't help but empathize with the characters. I even lowered my skepticism a bit towards the team that played, to put it mildly, not the most attractive football (I even got to attend one of their matches in person).
For those who are indifferent to football, this is a good way to look inside this world, get to know the psychology of the people involved, and understand why it's not about 22 millionaires running after a ball.
