This summer will be rich not only with long-awaited movie premieres but also with promising new TV series. This includes expansions of the 'Star Wars' and Marvel universes, a crime detective starring a 'Deadpool' star, anime, and much more.
We've already covered which movies to watch this summer, now it's time for the summer TV series. The 'After the Credits' team shares their expectations for the upcoming TV season.

More and more documentary projects about living actors are being released. Not long ago, Apple TV+ moved us with the doc about Michael J. Fox, and this summer we'll be told how the Iron Arnie became who he is. A bodybuilder, actor, governor, and such a media personality that he's even invited to give lectures on how to succeed in life. The details of Arnold Schwarzenegger's life are far from secret; he doesn't hide them like in the movie 'True Lies', but it's still interesting to watch his interviews, archival footage, and appreciate the scale of the journey he's made — from the 'Liebenauer' gym in Austria to the Hollywood hills and star-studded podiums.
'The Crowded Room'
Premiere Date: June 9
'The Crowded Room' generates genuine interest for many reasons.
It is based on the sensational novel Daniel Keyes' 'The Minds of Billy Milligan', which tells a romanticized story of a real criminal. Once, Billy managed to get an acquittal on grounds of insanity — specifically citing dissociative identity disorder. Many scientists still argue whether Milligan actually suffered from this disorder or invented it to avoid punishment.
The script for 'The Crowded Room' had been in development since 1997, when it was to be directed by James Cameron. Then in 2015, it was finally announced that the film was going into production with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role. Gradually, everything fizzled out — and now we're getting not a movie, but a series, and not Leo, but Tom Holland. It's very interesting to see what the creators are ready to present to us after all these years.
'The Full Monty'
Premiere Date: June 14
It's not often that people admit to looking forward to a series with a title like 'The Full Monty', but in this case, it's not even embarrassing. The series is a continuation of the cult British comedy about, it's not hard to guess, male strippers who take their first steps in this field during the height of the economic crisis in Sheffield.
This small English town has given a lot to the world, but 'The Full Monty' along with the band Pulp (whose song from the great album His'N'Hers plays in the film) made it a symbol of a bygone era of Britpop. The original had an outstanding cast – Robert Carlyle, Hugo Speer, Tom Wilkinson (a man whose name can be used to denote a strong supporting actor), and these wonderful people will all return for the series, but it's not even about that.
The film was, of course, about strippers, but not entirely. It's a story about how former workers in a dying industrial city try to survive, not lose themselves, not lose each other. They have children, values, dreams, no money, true, but they have the main thing — community. And if the series can capture that amazing atmosphere that the original had — a fun film about sad people — it will already be a great success. Even if not, seeing Robert Carlyle in action will be a pleasure for everyone — whether your childhood was spent watching 'Trainspotting' or 'Once Upon a Time'.
'The Walking Dead: Dead City'
Premiere Date: June 15
'The Walking Dead' ended, but no. This time, Maggie and Negan set off as a duo on their lonely journey through a world where there are more dead than alive. Nothing special is expected, but there still seems to be some interest. At least for the pilot.

Having been left disappointed by the unsuccessful projects of the latest superhero phase, Disney+ and Marvel are diligently continuing to explore the more successful series format, skillfully disguising it as various genre films.
'Secret Invasion' is a project by director Ali Selim, the creator of crime and spy series ('The Hunt', 'Condor'). So it's no surprise that 'Invasion', based on the first footage, looks like another installment of 'Mission: Impossible' — brisk, dark, and technological. It's at least interesting to watch. And besides, there's a chance that beloved heroes from the Avengers team will appear in the series. Viewers have clearly missed them.
'Downey's Dream Cars'
Premiere Date: June 22
Actors have a wide variety of hobbies. For example, Michael Fassbender races Formula 1 sports cars in his free time, and Tom Holland watches these F1 races (without Fassbender, though) alongside former professional tennis player Maria Sharapova. Robert Downey Jr. decided the world should also know about his love for cars.
In a new show for the streaming service Max, reminiscent of 'Pimp My Ride', classic cars will be transformed into hybrids and biofuel models under the actor's watchful eye. Well, the Iron Man's career in Marvel is over, time to find a new path and a place to stash his passport indefinitely.
'Hijack'
Premiere Date: June 28
The plot about a plane hijacking with passengers is one of the most popular in cinema (just google movies about hijacking... and the second option in the list will be 'plane'). And it's no wonder, because it's the perfect combination of a confined space, pressing time, and heightened emotions due to what's happening. And the sharpness is added by the fact that it all happens in the sky, and any wrong move could lead to the plane's destruction.
In the new thriller from Apple TV+, Idris Elba decided to take on the role of an airspace rescuer. Perhaps the main difference of this project from others is that the main character is not an air marshal and has no connections to law enforcement. He's an ordinary corporate negotiator who must find common ground with the terrorists.
'Rurouni Kenshin'
Premiere Date: July 6
If anyone remembers watching the anime called 'Samurai X' on 'STS', then there's good news for them. In July, 'Rurouni Kenshin' is coming out — a full-fledged reboot of that very 'Samurai X' from childhood. The creator of the original manga, Nobuhiro Watsuki, is personally overseeing the anime's production. The plot follows Kenshin Himura, a wanderer and former mercenary who roams the world helping people in hopes of atoning for his deeds, as the character's past is very dark.
Of course, in the summer you can also expect other big titles like the continuation of 'Jujutsu Kaisen' or 'Mushoku Tensei', but if you really want to get nostalgic, 'Rurouni Kenshin' should help with that. And if you haven't watched the old series, the reboot will easily help you get acquainted with this cool story without any loss.
'Full Circle'
Premiere Date: July 13
Even from the trailer of the new series by Steven Soderbergh, it's clear that there will be many questions but very few answers. And secret kidnappings, mysteries, twisted plots with a hint of crime — that's what always hooks you, especially if done professionally. And this director is consistently good at creating quality projects (preferably when he's not the sole writer).
The project gains sympathy from the participation of Zazie Beetz — the star of 'Atlanta' and 'Deadpool', who changes roles like gloves, and each role seems written for her.
'Ahsoka'
Premiere Date: August 31
According to preliminary data, 'Ahsoka' will be released on August 31. But that's still summer, right?
'Ahsoka' is worth waiting for, if only because she is one of the most interesting characters in Star Wars. She first appeared in the animated series 'The Clone Wars' as the Padawan of the well-known Anakin Skywalker. Then her journey continued in 'Rebels', and later in 'The Mandalorian'. Now Snips has her own show, which should tie all the projects together, because the series will feature Ezra, Sabine, and a bunch of other characters, including Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Dave Filoni is finally being given free rein, because in the future, all these series will lead to a large-scale crossover in the 'Star Wars' universe. Even though the animated series were childish and uneven at times, now there's a chance the universe will shine again. A new hope, so to speak.
Promising Series Continuations
'Black Mirror' (Season 6)
Premiere Date: June 15
Unexpectedly, after 4 years, a new season of the postmodern sci-fi about the role of technology and progress is coming out. Just when we had (almost) lost hope. We'll see if Netflix can present something worthy, or if it will just be a way to cash in on viewers' love.
'Outlander' (Season 7)
Premiere Date: June 18
The story with a hint of sci-fi and historical drama about time travel is coming to an end. The creators promise that this will be the final season for the show, based on the eponymous series of novels by Diana Gabaldon.
'Abbott Elementary' (Season 2)
Premiere Date: June 21
The American mockumentary sitcom continues to tell the story of teachers' lives in one of the underfunded and poor schools in the USA. Despite all the difficulties, red tape, an inadequate principal, and restless children, the main characters (the teachers) do not lose hope for a better future for their charges and for themselves.
In 2022, the series won three Golden Globes, including Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. We hope the second season will be even funnier and more socially sharp.
'And Just Like That...' (Season 2)
Premiere Date: June 22
Not the most necessary continuation, but if you're a fan of 'Sex and the City', don't forget it.
'The Bear' (Season 2)
Premiere Date: June 22
We continue to watch how young chef Carmen Berzatto tries to keep the family sandwich shop afloat in Chicago. The lead actor Jeremy Allen White won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor in a Comedy for his role in this series in 2022. So, we're waiting for new acting performances.

The last season for Henry Cavill and, possibly, the last decent one in Netflix's adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. After a more coherent second season, viewers are eagerly awaiting the third, especially considering it should feature the Wild Hunt itself, if you know what I mean. What can be said for sure? The new season of 'The Witcher' will definitely be better than the first and only season of the spin-off 'The Witcher: Blood Origin'.
