The 94th Academy Awards ceremony, the Oscars 2022, went by without any major surprises. The favorites took their prizes, and all the right people got their statuettes. As always, though. Will Smith and Chris Rock staged a little show, but otherwise, the ceremony is probably once again hitting its anti-ratings.

The triumphs of the evening were Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" with its six statuettes, and the indie drama "CODA" with three awards, including the main one for Best Picture.

Best Picture — "CODA"

The absolute favorite of all bookmakers.

Best Director — Jane Campion, "The Power of the Dog"

Campion became the first female director with two nominations for Best Director in her portfolio. She is also the third to win the coveted statuette, after Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker," 2009) and Chloé Zhao ("Nomadland," 2020).

Smith may have won his category, but he will be remembered more for his strange, seemingly staged reaction to Chris Rock's joke.

There were no clear favorites in the category until Chastain began racking up wins at smaller awards one after another. By the way, Cruz could have been a contender.

Best Supporting Actress — Ariana DeBose, "West Side Story"
