A Quiet Place Part II

'Cruella' was dubbed the new 'Joker' even before its release, as the reimagined look from the cult Disney series about Dalmatians is so striking and provocative. So now the actress will have to compete not only with Glenn Close, who previously played Cruella de Vil, but also with the inflated expectations of the audience.

The Coppola family looks incredibly productive in terms of producing decent directors in Hollywood. Following the legendary Francis Ford, talented Sofia, and creative Roman, Gia Coppola has tried her hand at this field for the second time. But while her debut film 'Palo Alto' went relatively unnoticed by the general audience, 'Mainstream', which participated in the main program of the Venice Film Festival, has every chance of popularity.
Coppola made a film about the world of video bloggers with obvious satire on everything happening online and around influencers, who before their star moment may well be ordinary losers. The main stars of the project are Andrew Garfield, Nat Wolff, Jason Schwartzman, and Maya Hawke.

Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard
Release Date: June 16
When it seemed that comedy buddy movies had long gathered dust, the comedy action film 'The Hitman's Bodyguard' hit the screens. That film skillfully exploited genre clichés, and the incredible chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson helped the film become a popular hit. And the sequel did not keep us waiting (well, actually it did, 4 years).
The sequel will feature even more Salma Hayek to spice things up. Additionally, the cast includes:
- Morgan Freeman;
- Antonio Banderas;
- Frank Grillo and others.
But more importantly, the sequel was directed by the original's author Patrick Hughes, so we can expect a spectacle no worse than what we had in 2017.

Black Widow
Release Date: July 8
The long-suffering project from Marvel and Disney, which has been postponed what seems like a thousand times, is finally being released wide. The solo film about the main woman of the MCU (forgive us Zoe Saldana and Brie Larson) Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) will be the swan song of the famous heroine, who, as we remember, sacrificed herself for the good of humanity.
In the solo film, we will learn what Black Widow did outside the Avengers team, meet her possible successor (played by the wonderful Florence Pugh), and also see one of the coolest antagonists from Marvel comics — Taskmaster. It should be engaging and spectacular. As usual.

No matter how much people hate M. Night Shyamalan, he occasionally delivers real quality (see 'Servant'). This time, the author of 'The Sixth Sense' will try to surprise us with something mystical, mysterious, and barely explainable. He is assisted by Gael García Bernal, who seems capable of playing anything, and the equally talented Rufus Sewell.
The film is based on the French comic 'Sandcastle' by Pierre Oscar Lévy and Frederik Peeters. The story is described as a horror in the vein of Lars von Trier's works, a mix of Franz Kafka and the TV series 'The Twilight Zone' and 'Lost'. Agree, it sounds like an interesting cocktail?

Jungle Cruise
Release Date: July 29
The world so lacks classic adventure films! And Disney, as if sensing this, is preparing a dashing action film with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, set in the upper Amazon. Wild animals and dangerous traps, competitors, and perhaps a pinch of the supernatural — all this will delight us in 'Jungle Cruise'.
The screenplay is by the well-known duo Glenn Ficarra-John Requa ('Crazy, Stupid, Love', 'Focus'), while the director is the classic Hollywood craftsman Jaume Collet-Serra with an obvious ceiling of possibilities. Let's see if this unexpected trio can surprise us and whether Disney will get a new big franchise.

The Suicide Squad
Release Date: August 5
resembles Frankenstein's monster, which is regularly attempted to be revived, but the result is something incomprehensibly outlandish and, frankly, strange. The new 'The Suicide Squad', which is both a sequel and a soft reboot of the series about reckless villains forced to act on orders, fits perfectly into the concept of 'the stranger, the better'.
DC vs Marvel — an eternal rivalry with fans on each side. We take the underdog position and find advantages in the WB cinematic universe.

James Gunn has already made one cult film about outcasts with superpowers. Perhaps he can pull it off within the framework of DC and Warner Bros. films. Although the trailer does not inspire confidence, nor does the acting of wrestler John Cena, who plays one of the leading roles here.

Free Guy
Release Date: August 12
And again Ryan Reynolds, and again a spectacular comedy. But this time it is an original project about the life of an ordinary NPC who has to become a real main character and also win the attention of a beautiful lady.
The film was directed by genre master Shawn Levy, so there is a chance that we are in for a new 'Night at the Museum' rather than a second 'Pixels'. And Reynolds is now arguably the leading face in strictly entertainment cinema. On paper, this is a perfect match; how it will be in reality, we will find out in the summer.

Don't Breathe 2
Release Date: August 12
The brutal thriller 'Don't Breathe' kept viewers on edge until the very credits. Its sequel will try to replicate the formula, though it is not yet clear how successful this idea is. However, few would refuse to once again admire the crazy Stephen Lang as the blind old man who wreaks havoc among the dim-witted youth.
Little is known about the project so far. The only thing worth noting is that Fede Álvarez, who directed the original, has this time only taken on producing duties. The director's chair has been taken by Rodo Sayagues ('The Last House on the Left').

'The Red Ghost' (June 10) — a long-awaited domestic slasher set in World War II with the new hero of Russian cinema, Yura Borisov;
'The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It' (June 10) — a new installment of the hugely popular horror franchise without James Wan, but with the ever-present Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson;
'Luca' (June 17) — which fits perfectly with the summer mood, not least because the events take place on the Italian coast;
'The Man Who Sold His Skin' (June 17) — one of the best films of the year, an inventive social statement on the themes of refugees, art, and human nature. One 'but' — the film is already available online;
'No Sudden Move' (July 1) — another star-studded film that tells the story of a group of criminals who decide to find out who hired them for a job that turned out to be not as simple as stated;
