Recalling and discussing what we saw in The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 2.

We continue our journey through a galaxy far, far away in the company of the fearless Mandalorian and the cute, surprise-filled little Baby Yoda. Let's take a look at what we saw in the new episode of the show "The Mandalorian," written by Jon Favreau and directed by Peyton Reed.

A New Lead and an Unexpected Passenger

Having obtained Boba Fett's armor but still not finding any other Mandalorians, our heroes head back to Mos Eisley. Along the way, they are attacked by a strange gang of bandits, whom the Mandalorian dispatches without much trouble. An extremely strange and completely unnecessary scene that once again shows how cool Pedro Pascal's character is and how tenderly he treats the Child. Okay, we got that from the first season, thanks for the reminder.

Old acquaintance Peli Motto not only repairs Mando's ship but also helps him with a lead on where other Mandalorians might be. And here there are questions about Favreau the writer's logic. If Peli knew about this earlier, why didn't she tell the main character during their previous meeting? If not, why are such blatant "plot contrivances" used to advance the story? An open question.

One way or another, in the second episode of The Mandalorian Season 2, the heroes meet a new character in the form of a frog-like humanoid who knows about other Mandalorians but will only reveal their location if Pascal's character takes her and her eggs (yes, exactly) to her husband to continue their lineage (WHAT?!). The Mandalorian has no other choice, so he agrees.

The Child's Insatiable Appetite

The most interesting part becomes clear during the journey. Baby Yoda turns out to be extremely fond of their new passenger's eggs. He devours them one after another at the first opportunity.

Why was this shown? On one hand, it's completely unclear because it plays no role in the plot. Yes, Mando scolds the Child a couple of times, but that's it. On the other hand, perhaps this was a way to remind us of the little "Yoda's" appetite. Remember the scene from the first season when he ate a frog?

It is precisely the Child's insatiable appetite that leads to the travelers' main problems in Episode 2 of "The Mandalorian." On the way to their destination, the heroes encounter X-wings of the New Republic, from which Mando decides to hide on a nearby planet. The escape succeeds, but a bad landing causes the Mandalorian's ship to fall through the ice, ending up in a dangerous cave.

Then begins a series of strange episodes, not very characteristic of Jon Favreau's series. The frog-like humanoid first uses a "dead" droid to remind the Mandalorian of his promise to take her to her husband. Then she goes for a swim with her eggs in a hot spring inside the cave.

While Mando tries to persuade the passenger to return to the ship, the Child again eats whatever he can get his hands on. The new delicacy turns out to be some kind of spider larva. This meal awakens other spiders from their sleep, including the queens.

Miraculous Rescue

The heroes find themselves in a difficult situation, as the ship is severely damaged and there is no other way to escape. The salvation of the hapless travelers from the deadly arthropods comes from the very New Republic pilots who did not give up trying to find the Mandalorian's ship.

The pilots deal with the spiders, read Mando his list of "achievements," including neutralizing several dangerous criminals, and... let him go instead of arresting him. "Times are tough," as one of the pursuers says. The journey continues.

Personal Impressions:

The second episode of The Mandalorian Season 2 turned out to be controversial. It has cool action and even spectacular horror episodes with ominous spiders. At the same time, the episode is essentially a filler, useless for the overall story. No plot progression, questionable script decisions and "deus ex machina," clumsy attempts to lower the cuteness meter regarding Baby Yoda—all this leaves not the most pleasant feelings about what we saw. This is probably one of the weakest episodes in 2 seasons.
