Recalling and discussing what we saw in episode 1 of season 2 of The Mandalorian.

Not so long ago, we were speculating about what to expect from season 2 of The Mandalorian, and it has already premiered, once again delighting fans with the unique atmosphere of classic Star Wars. Let's break down what we saw in the debut episode of the continuation, written and directed by the showrunner himself, Jon Favreau.

On the Road Again

The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) sets off once again in search of the kin of the mysterious and potentially incredibly powerful child who previously 'fell' into his care. To find a way to locate this race, the hero first tries to find members of his own kind. For information, he heads to an underground establishment with something akin to gladiatorial battles.

As we know, things rarely go according to plan for Mando. Here, he immediately faces armed resistance and attempts to steal his precious armor by a one-eyed character named Gor Koresh (John Leguizamo) and his henchmen. This episode once again proves how cool our main hero is, as he single-handedly deals with the attackers and learns that another Mandalorian is hiding somewhere on Tatooine. The protagonist himself was on that planet not long ago but didn't know about the existence of the town Mos Pelgo.

The Marshal

Transiting through the already familiar city of Mos Eisley, where the Mandalorian once again meets Peli Motto, who is always ready to fix his ship and look after the little 'Yoda' child, Pedro Pascal's hero heads to a place long erased from all maps.

Without much trouble, the Mandalorian manages to find the wearer of his clan's armor, but it turns out that person has nothing to do with the Mandalorians. The character named Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant) introduces himself as the marshal of the town Mos Pelgo and wears the old armor of Boba Fett.

And what, did anyone seriously expect the iconic saga hero to appear in the flesh?! The writers handled this moment quite originally, trolling fans without unnecessary malice. Or maybe not, but more on that later.

It's amusing that Olyphant was chosen for the role of the marshal. The actor has played roles in many projects related to justice and the Wild West atmosphere. This move gives the series an additional bonus in terms of perception.

And then, when a duel at 'high noon' is brewing in the best traditions of Wild West westerns, a giant sand worm intervenes. Visually, it resembles the exogorth from the classic trilogy, but I could be wrong, so correct me in the comments if that's not the case.

Cobb tells Mando that it's a Krayt dragon terrorizing the town. The marshal promises to give the bounty hunter the armor if he helps get rid of the monster. And when has our hero been scared by such challenges? Of course, he agrees! Especially since Vanth knows where the creature lives.

Then a third party intervenes — the Tusken Raiders. The desert dwellers and the residents of Mos Pelgo don't exactly get along. Nevertheless, the Mandalorian convinces the warring parties that the Krayt dragon is a threat far greater than the rest. As a result, a decision is made to act together against the common enemy.

What follows is a very colorful battle with the Krayt dragon, which, unlike the dragons from Game of Thrones, cannot be killed with one harpoon shot (or even several). It is a truly deadly opponent, defeated only thanks to Mando's resourcefulness and fearlessness. And speaking of the exogorth, there's an obvious reference here.

As promised, Cobb Vanth gives the Mandalorian the armor, expressing gratitude and hope that their paths will cross again. But this typical melancholic moment quickly fades against the backdrop of who appears on screen in the final seconds of the debut episode of The Mandalorian season 2. And we see none other than Temuera Morrison himself, who played Jango Fett in the Star Wars saga!

If you check the IMDB website, you can see that Morrison is listed as playing the role of Boba Fett. Does this mean the iconic hero survived and abandoned beskar and the Mandalorian way of life? Let's hope we find out in the following episodes.

Personal Impressions:

The start of the new show was a resounding success! The now-classic side adventures once again delight with tension and originality, the level of scale and special effects has noticeably grown compared to the first season, the space western atmosphere is felt 100%, and little Yoda is still incredibly adorable.

There are, of course, a couple of questions or criticisms. For example, why weren't we given even a hint of the further development of the overall plot? Why wasn't a single minute of screen time devoted to Moff Gideon and that very darksaber? Why was the episode's runtime increased so much if the introduction could have easily been shortened?

All of the above is more nitpicking than genuine dissatisfaction. The Mandalorian is the best thing that has happened to Star Wars in many years, and Jon Favreau definitely knows what he's doing.
