▶️ Previously known as Clawdbot and then Moltbot, OpenClaw went viral in recent weeks for its promise to be "an AI that actually does things," whether it's managing your calendar, booking flights, or even joining a social network full of other AI assistants. (The name was changed the first time after Anthropic threatened a lawsuit over similarity to Claude, and then again because Steinberger liked the new name.)
▶️ In a blog post announcing his decision to join OpenAI, the Austrian developer said he could have turned OpenClaw into a major company, but "it doesn't inspire me much."
▶️ "I want to change the world, not build a big company[,] and collaborating with OpenAI is the fastest way to make this accessible to everyone," Steinberger said.
▶️ OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote on X that in his new role, Steinberger will be "developing next-generation personal agents." As for OpenClaw, Altman said it "will exist as an open-source project that OpenAI will continue to support."
