The trick that helps me exercise regularly, even when I'm really lazy

People often think of me as some kind of health freak and a very disciplined person: I go to the gym three times a week and work like a dog.

Ha! I'm the laziest creature in the world. 😁
I just have a secret ingredient.

When I was just starting out, I had a bunch of standard excuses in my head: I'm tired, I need to cook dinner, it's raining today, I'll go tomorrow, etc.

Regularity, of course, didn't come from that.

Then I started telling myself: "okay, I'll just get to the gym, and if I feel lazy, I'll turn around and go home"

I got to the gym and somehow didn't feel like turning around anymore.

"Alright, I'll walk on the treadmill for 10 minutes since I'm already here. If I still don't feel like working out, I'll go home."

Sounds like nonsense, but damn, it works!

I've been exercising regularly for 15 years. I still get lazy sometimes. I have exercises for posture that I don't like and have to do. And I just tell myself: okay, I'll do one set and that's it. I do one, and then the second doesn't seem so hard to do.

The whole secret is that I don't force myself to do the entire workout. I just help myself start.

This trick works great not only with workouts.

For example, in situations when you've already eaten enough but still finish the food because "how can you leave food?!!"

I suggest an experiment to my clients:
➡️ eat most of it, take a pause;
➡️ listen to yourself: do you really still want more?

If yes → finish it.
If no → you can stop.
And if it's uncomfortable → finish it, that's fine too.

The key here is: don't force yourself to stop, give yourself a choice.
Because the harder you push, the more you want to do the opposite :)
