There is one skill that distinguishes confident people from those who constantly try to prove something to everyone.
They don't argue with every piece of advice.
Imagine a situation. You decide to change jobs, start your own business, or buy a new car. And then a person appears with the classic:
— "If I were you, I wouldn't do that."
What happens next for most people?
Explanations begin. Arguments. Attempts to convince. Although... no one even asked you to.
Over time, I realized one thing:
Most people give advice not because they want to change your life. They want their opinion to be acknowledged.
And here a very simple trick works. Instead of a long argument, say:
"Thank you, I'll take your opinion into account."
This phrase does three things at once:
✅ shows respect for the interlocutor;
✅ doesn't turn the conversation into an argument;
✅ leaves the right to make the decision with you.
And this is not weakness, but the ability not to give others the steering wheel of your life.
💡 Remember one thought:
Gratitude is politeness. Agreement is a decision. Don't confuse one with the other.
🔖The idea for this post came from reading Igor Ryzov's book "69 Psychological Tricks in Communication." I took it as a starting point and added my own vision and experience.
❓ By the way, how do you like this format?
