When you've got a handle on the basics, it's time to move on to practice. And here Kaggle is pure gold.
It's a platform where you can solve real machine learning problems. There are tons of competitions, from simple to advanced, plus a huge number of open notebooks where you can see how others think.
🥇 Kaggle will help you level up skills related to
- choosing an approach to a problem,
- data analysis and preprocessing,
- selecting metrics,
- tuning and improving models.
You can work on tasks not only alone but also in a team - such experience will boost you even more 💪 You can find a team in thematic chats (for example, here).
To climb the leaderboard faster, I recommend taking a course on competitive Data Science - it has maximum focus on practice and approaches that work.
By the way, live hackathons are also a thing. Large companies, non-profits, and even the government regularly hold hackathons and give out relevant ML tasks from their practice. Sometimes, if you perform well at such a hackathon, you can get not only money but also a job offer 😉
How to find them? -> Just subscribe to major ML channels on Telegram + Google it. Everything is publicly available!
💡 If you don't want to jump straight into competitions - just download datasets and try to solve something on your own. That's also great practice.
With Kaggle, you can start building your first portfolio projects, and along with that, boost your confidence ↗️
