a16z released the 6th edition of the top 100 AI products
Here's what came out:
ChatGPT - 900 million weekly users, more than 10% of the world's population. But competitors are growing faster: Claude +200% in paid subscribers year-over-year, Gemini +258%. About 20% of ChatGPT users also use Gemini simultaneously - people are no longer monogamous with AI.
Platforms are diverging in strategy, and that's the most interesting part. ChatGPT is building a super app: 220 apps in its catalog, from shopping to health (Expedia, Instacart, Zillow), testing ads and preparing "Sign in with ChatGPT". Claude is targeting professionals and developers: financial terminals, dev tools, scientific databases, and Claude Code reached $1 billion in annual revenue in six months. Catalog overlap is 11%.
Image generation has moved inside large platforms, Midjourney dropped from the top 10 to 46th place. But AI video (Kling, Hailuo, Pixverse), music (Suno), and agents have taken off: open-source OpenClaw surpassed React and Linux in GitHub stars in a few weeks, and OpenAI acquired it.
Geographically, the AI world has split into three poles: the West (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini), China (Doubao, Kimi, DeepSeek), and Russia, where Yandex Browser with Alice entered the top 10 mobile AI products globally. And in per capita adoption, Singapore leads - the US is only in 20th place.
