Vox recorded a video with infographics about fast fashion. It shows how many new clothing models the main players in the fashion market release annually. Not the number of items, but the number of designs.
Just look at the scale: while GAP releases 12 thousand models per year, and Zara — 40 thousand, SHEIN produces a shocking 1.5 million models annually. That's 37 times more than Zara!
How does it work?
Every minute, the company releases 6 new designs. Such speed can only be achieved through micro-production chains, low cost, and real-time data analysis.
To sell thousands of tons of produced items, Shein stimulates demand with the help of influencers, data analysis, and low prices. The price: huge environmental damage, tons of textile waste, and questionable production ethics.
