▶️ Apple has discontinued the Mac Pro. This venerable desktop computer lasted twenty years and for most of its time was the flagship model in the company's lineup. The company has since removed the product from its website.

▶️ The Mac Pro was first released in 2006 as a replacement for the then-flagship Power Mac G5. Like its predecessor, the Mac Pro was a desktop PC in a tower case with a modular design that allowed the user to replace the processor, RAM, optical and disk drives, as well as PCI expansion cards.

▶️ The base configuration of the Mac Pro remained unchanged until 2012, despite it already starting to become outdated. Then, in 2013, Apple announced a controversial redesign that later earned the nickname "Mac trash can." This model abandoned the modularity of the previous tower design in favor of a more compact but largely integrated component design, where the only upgradeable components were memory and storage. This model was eventually discontinued by the company, which later turned out to be due to thermal limitations of the design that prevented upgrades to more powerful components.

▶️ In 2019, Apple introduced the third and final major version of the Mac Pro. This model returned to the modular structure of its predecessors, where all components except the processor could be replaced by the user. This modification became one of the last computers released by Apple with an Intel processor, as the company began transitioning to its own M-series ARM processors.

▶️ In 2023, the Mac Pro received an update to the M2 Ultra processor, which was the last update in its entire existence. Although modularity remained unchanged, the transition to the M-series chip limited the types of devices that could be connected to the PCI expansion slots, reducing the computer's appeal to enthusiasts. Ultimately, it was surpassed by the Mac Studio as the most powerful computer in Apple's lineup, as the Mac Pro no longer received updates. Now the Studio remains the flagship desktop computer in Apple's current lineup.
