Musk admitted that he used to fall into the trap of hiring people from Google or Apple just because of the brand on their CV. Now, when hiring, Elon uses the "three points" rule, which he is actively implementing at Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI.

1️⃣ Instead of a cover letter, candidates are asked to submit just 3 points describing the most complex technical problems they have personally solved. Important: Not a list of responsibilities, but specific cases: what wasn't working — what I did — what result in numbers. If a person cannot describe the solution process in detail, it means they were just "passing by" while someone else solved the problem.

2️⃣ The 20-minute rule. Musk stopped trusting paper because AI has learned to write perfect resumes. "Trust the conversation, not the paper." Musk looks for depth of understanding: can an expert explain a complex concept in simple terms? If within 20 minutes of live conversation the candidate hasn't evoked a "Wow!" effect, the interview ends.

3️⃣ "Good heart." Sounds unusual, but by this Musk means reliability and integrity. Skills can be taught, but values don't change. One talented but toxic employee can destroy the culture of an entire team under extreme workloads.

In 2024–2026, Microsoft, Google, and Tesla massively removed higher education requirements from job postings. According to statistics, 86% of employers now consider professional certifications (PMP, AWS, Google Certs) a more accurate indicator of job readiness than a university degree.
