Netflix deliberately simplifies dialogues and makes plots simple

Matt Damon on Joe Rogan's podcast broke down why Netflix makes movies with dumb dialogues and simple plots. We are to blame!
Previously, action movies had a classic structure: three escalating spectacular acts with a grand finale. Now it's different:

The 5-minute rule: Streaming services require the most expensive action at the beginning so you don't close the tab. 🍿

Plot for smartphone users: Writers are forced to repeat the essence of the plot 3–4 times per movie in dialogues because viewers are constantly distracted by their smartphones. 📱

The home factor: At home, the lights are on, kids are running around, and dogs are barking — the attention level is much lower than in a movie theater. 🐕

In the same interview, Matt explained that the disappearance of "smart" mid-budget cinema is linked to the collapse of the DVD market. Previously, studios could take risks knowing they would recoup at the box office through disc sales. Now — it's either a blockbuster or a cheap series.
