
To reach $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), LinkedIn in the 2000s needed a staff of 900 people. Ten years later, Slack, thanks to a great product, managed with just 250 employees.
Now startups need only 0.2 people per million dollars of revenue. That's 15–25 times more efficient than twenty years ago. Teams of 20–50 people are hitting $100M ARR.
In Silicon Valley, founders can basically not worry and automate everything that moves and doesn't move: sales, support, operations, as local laws allow.
In Europe (e.g., France), in medicine or nuclear energy, you can't replace a human with a robot yet — laws won't allow it. But they came up with a trick called Service-as-a-Software: packaging the experience of live experts into AI software. As a result, business margins increase from 30% to 80%.
