In 2025, Sber carried out a large-scale optimization, cutting a fifth of its employees. The reason is deep integration of artificial intelligence into business processes. This was stated by German Gref at the First International Congress of Public Administration.
Gref highlighted the UAE case, where since January 2026, public services have been fully automated. This is a benchmark for Sber: maximum automation without human involvement.
“Today it’s early, tomorrow it will be too late. We won’t notice this phase transition when it happens. And then bang – it’s already happened. And that’s it, you’re on the sidelines,” Gref noted.
I don’t know about you, but I haven’t noticed widespread use of AI. After all, automated scoring, chatbots in support, or legal document review have long become commonplace. It seems that all this is not some innovation or fresh trend, but a normal industry standard.
It seems to me that all these loud words are just a consequence of inflated headcounts during the COVID years, and nothing more. Companies first hired people, and now they are optimizing processes. This is a normal correction after active hiring, not some kind of “revolution.”
What do you think?
